SEVEN GIRLS ※first feature film

Drama, History | 148 min | Japan | 2017 | director. David Miyahara

The absurd lives of seven prostitutes.

After World War II, U.S. Occupation Forces was in charge of Japan. In Tokyo without hope and dignity, there were prostitutes lived their small lives.

People were ridiculous jest being alive with no food and no expectation. Women lost their men in the front and lost their houses in hometown. To make a living, women became the “Pan-pan girls”, which were organized by the Japanese government to provide sexual services legally.

The forgotten happiness and love that never existed…Being trifled with men’s ambitious, the girls sang with tears and danced with laughter, tried to live their fragile lives strongly in the city of debris.

This is not a film that focus on misery or sexual issue but tells a message of being living. Living the everyday life, that is a wonderful thing but we might take it for granted these days.

TEASER

A film by Kirill Pletnev (debut)
Cast: Inga Oboldina ("Everybody Dies But Me", "Sky. Plane. Girl"), Viktoria Isakova ("The Student"), Vladimir Ilyin ("Burnt By The Sun", "The Barber of Siberia"), Anna Ukolova ("Leviathan")

Alevtina Romanova is a penal officer in a women’s prison colony. Her image of a stern officer is betrayed only by her voice – a kind of voice to be envied by opera stars. She has been embarrassed of her gift since she was a child and now sings only when she stays alone, to herself. Once, her secret is revealed – an inmate records a video with her cell phone and uploads it in the internet. The video is a hit, and Alevtina is invited to Moscow to the country’s most popular song contest. The woman is eager not to miss her chance, and, finally, to change her life. But she is totally unprepared for the competition. The only person who can help her rehearse is the inmate – who is a former singer.

Don’t let them into your head

STORY:
After going missing for several days, a man named Shinji (Ryuhei Matsuda) reappears, acting nothing like his former self. His relationship with his wife Narumi (Masami Nagasawa) had been on the rocks, but he is now much calmer and kinder than he ever was before, which only serves to exasperate her even further. What was your happiest moment in life?

STORY:

Kanzaki, a middle-aged man, goes to a quiet countryside village. He puts his helmet on a shrunken old woman whom he meets by chance in a shop. As soon as he presses the buttons on the helmet one by one, she suddenly remembers forgotten happy moments and is rejuvenated. This is just the beginning. Kanzaki goes on to make the village people recall their happy pasts, but his face is lined with worry and a sadness that deepens. What is the secret of this helmet? And what is he trying to do with it?

Director SABU’s Happiness suggests happiness and suffering are intertwined through the unusual scenario of a helmet reminding people of the happiest moments of their lives. Sabu convincingly portrays the notion that memory is the source of both happiness and suffering, and how memory affects our lives.

The Spanish language feature from Mexico is Franco’s fourth film to be invited to the Cannes Film Festival.

Starring Emma Suarez (Julieta, The Next Skin) as April, the film tells the story of 17-year-old Valeria who is pregnant by her teenage boyfriend, but hasn't informed her absent mother April. When her sister Clara goes behind her back and calls their mother, she arrives full of concern, support and tenderness. But once the baby is born, it soon becomes clear why Valeria wanted to keep April as far away as possible.

“We think Michel’s new film is his best yet,” said Protagonist CEO Mike Goodridge. “Anchored by a wonderfully deadpan performance by Emma Suárez, April’s Daughter is a film which will surprise, even stun audiences as its story unfolds. We are so happy to be partnering again with our friends at mk2 on this film."

mk2 films Managing Director Juliette Schrameck adds “We are thrilled to be handling such a special film, certainly one of the most powerful pieces on parent/child relationships seen in a long time, served by Michel Franco’s remarkable execution and excellent actresses' performances.”

'Buñuel in the labyrinth of the tortules' - 2018 - directed by Salvador Simo

1930, Paris, the film The Golden Age is a scandal and Luis Buñuel, who thought he was destined to be the star of surrealism, is left with nothing. He is offered a documentary project on one of the poorest places in Spain, Las Hurdes, but he has no money.

His friend the sculptor Ramón Acín buys a lottery ticket while jokingly promising to finance the film with it. He wins and keeps his promise.

The harshness of Las Hurdes and the extreme misery of its people affect Buñuel deeply. Reality, dreams, memories of his childhood and of Salvador Dalí intermingle in his mind, endangering the production and his friendship with Ramón. From there will emerge the Buñuel of the future.

But what is left on the way? How much does that step cost?

FAERIE MEDIA world premiere of THE CURSE OF DA LINZER animation 9 Minute dark comedy short.  View teaser.  Contact: kristine@faeriemedia.com

The Curse of Da Linzer infuses a Dada aesthetic throughout this vivid story of two selfish children who experience a dark twist of fate as a result of arguing over a Linzer cookie. It transports the viewer into a dreamscape that includes a steam-punk confectioner's shop in a giant gumball machine that becomes a nether-world presided over by a cursed cookie-fed witch.

Sales agent Dutch Features Global Entertainment has picked up Marc Conen's feature debut SUNSET CONTRACT ahead of the Cannes Film Festival. In this modern folktale, social media CEO Brad (Peter Nicholas) meets the Devil herself in his beautiful new beach villa. She confronts him with a contract he can't remember agreeing to. Deadline: sunset.

An avid film lover, Marc Conen switched from engineering to independent filmmaking in 2006 and founded the production company Indiepend Pictures together with business partner/actor Peter Nicholas. They wrote, produced and distributed their first international English short film HIGH TEA (2011) independently, which ran at international film festivals around the world making its way into the in competition shortlist of the Palm Beach Film Festival in 2012.
