Lionsgate has obtained the rights to Monster Hunt 2 in the US and the UK. Monster Hunt 2 is the sequel to the immensely successful 2015 Chinese blockbuster Monster Hunt. It was China's highest-grossing film ever, earning $382 million at the box office. While its reception to english-speaking audiences was fairly subdued, the sequel is still highly anticipated, featuring a returning cast (Bailhe Bai and Boran Jing) along with a new face Tony Leung Chiu-Wai. The film is in production and said to be realeased in 2018 during the Chinese New Year, which Lionsgate will mirror.

Radiant Films International has sold multi-territories to the delightful comedy Handsome Devil starring Fionn O’Shea (Netflix’s Jadotville), Nicholas Galitzine (upcoming The Changeover), Moe Dunford (History Channel’s “Vikings”), and Andrew Scott (BBC’s “Sherlock”), it was announced today by President and CEO, Mimi Steinbauer.
Written and directed by John Butler, key international sales have been completed with Rialto for Australia and New Zealand, Salzgeber for Germany, and Tongariro Releasing in Poland. Radiant previously sold the festival favorite to Icon Distribution which had successful theatrical releases in the UK on April 28th, 2017 and Ireland on April 21st. Breaking Glass Pictures is planning a theatrical release in the U.S. in June 2017.
“The accessible characters of Handsome Devil coupled with a warm and charming story is resonating strongly with the buyers who are looking for films that not only entertain but illuminate issues of our times,” said Steinbauer. “Our distribution partners have thoroughly embraced the potential of the film. As experts in releasing independent films in their markets we are excited to see Handsome Devil in cinemas near you.”
The feel-good Irish film made its world premiere at the 2016 Toronto International Film festival where it charmed audiences and critics alike with its winning performances and the director’s polished filmmaking. The film kicked-off the Glasgow Film Festival on February 15, 2017 and was the Closing Night Film at the Dublin International Film Festival on February 26th.
Handsome Devil centers on Ned and Conor who are forced to share a room at their rugby-obsessed boarding school. Despite their differences, the bullied outsider and the dashing star athlete form an unlikely friendship until it is tested by the faculty and students. Seemingly destined to become enemies, the boys decide that sometimes you don’t have to pick a side in life - sometimes being yourself means being a little bit of everything.
The film is produced by Rebecca O’Flanagan and Robert Walpole for Treasure Entertainment. Co-producers are Claire McCaughley and Sarah Gunn.

For 10 idyllic years, young Mija (An Seo Hyun) has been caretaker and constant companion to Okja-a massive animal and an even bigger friend-at her home in the mountains of South Korea. But that changes when a family-owned multinational conglomerate Mirando Corporation takes Okja for themselves and transports her to New York, where image obsessed and self-promoting CEO Lucy Mirando (Tilda Swinton) has big plans for Mija's dearest friend.
With no particular plan but single-minded in intent, Mija sets out on a rescue mission, but her already daunting journey quickly becomes more complicated when she crosses paths with disparate groups of capitalists, demonstrators and consumers, each battling to control the fate of Okja...while all Mija wants to do is bring her friend home.
Deftly blending genres, humor, poignancy and drama, Bong Joon Ho (Snowpiercer, The Host) begins with the gentlest of premises-the bond between man and animal-and ultimately creates a distinct and layered vision of the world that addresses the animal inside us all.
Okja is a Plan B Entertainment, Lewis Pictures and Kate Street Picture Company production in association with Netflix. _______________________________________________________________
Okja will premiere exclusively on Netflix on June 28. netflix.com/okja

The debut feature film drama LEMONADE, written and directed by Romanian filmmaker Ioana Uricaru, is starting a 32-day shoot on June 8, in Montreal, Canada.
The film is lead produced for Mobra Films (Romania) by Cristian Mungiu, President of the Cinéfondation and Short Films Jury of the 70th Cannes Film Festival, in co-production with Christoph Kukula and Eike Goreczka for 42film (Germany), Yanick Létourneau for Peripheria Productions (Canada) and Sean Wheelan and Tomas Eskilsson for Film I Vast and Filmgate Films (Sweden). World sales rights are handled by Pluto Film while Mongrel International is handling US sales rights. Mongrel also distributes in Canada, while Metropole will be distributing in Quebec. Voodoo Films has acquired distribution rights for Romania, and déjà-vu film for Germany.
Mara, a Romanian single mother of 30 years old, marries Daniel (an American), while being in the US for a temporary job as a nurse. When the path towards getting her green card takes an unexpected turn, Mara is forced to confront the truth that the real America has no resemblance to the one in her dreams.
LEMONADE deals with the very actual topic of migration in the context of the stereotypes and clichés we all use about cultures that we actually don’t know well. The lead role of Mara will be played by Malina Manovici (from Mungiu's Graduation).
Ioana Uricaru and Cristian Mungiu have been collaborating for years: Ioana co-directed the collective episodic film TALES FROM THE GOLDEN AGE (Mobra Films, 2009) and the short STOPOVER (Mobra Films, 2010). The first premiered in Un Certain Regard in Cannes, 2009 and the latter in the Official Selection of Sundance Film Festival, 2011. It is a natural step that Mungiu produces her first feature debut.
Ioana Uricaru and Cristian Mungiu
Cristian Mungiu: I’ve known Ioana since 1994, when we started together at the film school in Bucharest. We wrote together a screenplay which brought us our first professional trip to LA in 2000. We drew different conclusions from that visit: I got back and continued as a filmmaker in Romania while Ioana moved to the US, graduated film at USC and got a doctor’s degree in cinema. Despite the distance, our passionate conversations about cinema stayed as vivid as 20 years ago.
Palme d'Or winner Cristian Mungiu will be available for interviews in Cannes between May 22-29. The producers Yanick Létourneau and Eike Goreczka will also be available for interviews in Cannes. Please contact mm filmpresse to set up a time slot.
The film is supported by the Romanian National Cinema Center, MDM Germany, Eurimages, QUÉBEC Film & Television Tax Credits – Gestion SODEC, Media Programme, CANADA Film & Television Tax Credit program.
The film will be completed January 2018.

Cannes competition director Fatih Akin has been awarded a Green Shooting Card for the Diane Kruger starrer In the Fade; French actress Audrey Dana is representing Ecoprod as its Ambassador in Cannes; and Italian filmmaker Peter Mercias is premiering his green-produced film Strollica in the Short Film Corner. And this year’s Producer on the Move Verena Gräfe-Höft has continued following best practices since her Un Certain Regard entry Nothing Bad Can Happen in 2013.
In the international film industry, there is a growing understanding that the careful management of resources is often a win-win situation — for the budget as well as for the environment. A key driver of this development in Europe is the Green Cine-Regio Subgroup that launched its brand new report on sustainable film and media production at the Majestic Hotel in Cannes. Compiled by Birgit Heidsiek, Publisher of Green Film Shooting Magazine, the 2017 Cine-Regio Green Report provides an overview of eco-friendly efforts taken by the film industry across Europe.
From pre-production planning to studio film production, from post-production to theatrical release, various approaches to sustainability cover the entire production chain. A growing number of regional funds are gaining shareable green experience with best practices, tools, and training.
The survey, structured along twelve topics, focuses on sustainable production efforts in twelve European regions. The implementation of green measures is supported by different approaches and incentives. Models and methods may vary from region to region but the goal is always addressing climate change. Environmentally friendly practices can be implemented in the workflow of any film or media production — as various projects in the 2017 Cine-Regio Green Report demonstrate.
“Greening the film sector may challenge film professionals and film funds — but the challenge is nothing compared to the Climate Change Challenge”, emphasizes Charlotte Appelgren, General-Secretary, Cine-Regio. “So let’s continue to inspire, exchange and share!“

HITLER'S HOLLYWOOD |
DCP/HD • GERMANY • 2017 • 105 min
The Third Reich cinema was a heavily censored industry and at the same time, longed to be a German dream factory. It produced, among others, the Nazi blockbuster "Münchhausen", at the request of Joseph Goebbels. It established its own celebrity star system and used the latest marketing tools.
About 1000 feature films were produced in Germany between 1933 and 1945 and only a few were openly Nazi propaganda films and even fewer could be considered harmless entertainment.
We look at these films and the people behind them. How stereotypes of the “enemy” and values of love and hate managed to be planted, into the viewers’ minds, through the screens.
Directed by Rüdiger Suchsland Produced by LOOKS Filmproduktionen GmbH In collaboration with: The Murnau-Foundation, Arte/ZDF and funded byMedienboard Berlin Brandenburg and Hessische Filmförderung Original Language: German
