Director Francis Lee will be visiting Stockholm Film Festival with the intense drama God’s Own Country. The film has been awarded at the Berlin Film Festival, Edinburgh Film Festival and Sundance Film Festival among others. Critics have described it as a new Brokeback Mountain. Now the film is competing for the heaviest prize in the movie industry – The Bronze horse.

The plot of God’s Own Country takes it’s start in the British countryside where we meet the young farmer Johnny Saxby who numbs his daily frustrations with binge drinking and casual sex. Until the arrival of a Romanian migrant worker named Gheorghe ignites an intense relationship that sets Johnny on a new path…

This is Francis Lee’s feature film debut as a writer and director after leaving his acting career to return to the British countryside where he grew up.

The film will be screened at the Stockholm Film Festival on 8th–19th of November and will participate in the official Stockholm XXVIII Competition. It will have its regular Swedish premiere on November 24th.

Director and writer Francis Lee will be available for interviews on Monday 13th of November.
