My grandfather Pal Schanzer WW1 served and high decorated Major for the Austrian Hungarian Monarchy

Lights across Britain and Europe were switched off for an hour on Monday in a tribute to the dead of the First World War, inspired by the prophetic observation of then-Foreign Minister Lord Grey on the eve of war 100 years ago.

"The lamps are going out all over Europe," Grey said in 1914. "We shall not see them lit again in our lifetime."

British landmarks like Trafalgar Square were dark from 10 p.m. local time, and Prime Minister David Cameron asked all Britons to switch off all but a single light in their homes for an hour. 

 

 

The 10 Best World War I films.

I wanted WWI and the films about it to get more respect. The Great War or WWI is overshadowed by WWI and The Vietnam War in Hollywood even though it was a historic time as the world came into the 20th century, so I wanted to create a list of the best WWI films. Sadly there have only been a few made compared to WWI and Vietnam films.
