The feature film LEMONADE by director Ioana Uricaru will celebrate its world premiere in the Panorama section of the upcoming Berlin International Film Festival. Born and raised in Romania, director Ioana Uricaru has crafted a powerful debut feature film that questions the idea of the American dream and explores the condition of a young mother caught between two cultures.
LEMONADEis an international collaboration that has brought together highly acknowledged producers. It is a coproduction between Romania (Mobra Films), Canada (Peripheria), Germany (42film) and Sweden (Filmgate Films, Film i Väst). LEMONADE has been produced by the critically acclaimed Palme d'Or winner Cristian Mungiu (GRADUATION, 4 MONTHS, 3 WEEKS AND 2 DAYS). In LEMONADEIoana Uricaru creates a powerful vision of the strong alliance between belonging and economy in a globalized world and the abuse of power one can encounter in a situation of profound uncertainty. International sales are handled by Pluto Film. US sales are handled by Mongrel Media in Canada. LEMONADE is shot in English language.
LEMONADE features lead Mălina Manovici (GRADUATION), Steve Bacic (THE 6th DAY) andDylan Scott Smith (TOTAL RECALL, MAZE RUNNER: THE DEATH CURE) to name the most prominent. The director Ioana Uricaru co-directed the film TALES FROM THE GOLDEN AGE that was produced by Cristian Mungiu and premiered 2009 in Un Certain Regard in Cannes.

Synopsis: While working in the US on a temporary visa as a caretaker, Mara, a 30 year-old single mother from Romania, marries Daniel, an American. After the arrival of her son Dragos, everything seems to have fallen perfectly into place. When the process of getting a green card veers unexpectedly off course, however, Mara is faced with abuses of power on every level and forced to answer a dark question about herself – how far would you go to get what you want?
The lead role, Mara, is played by Malina Manovici (GRADUATION) and this first feature by Ioana Uricaru is produced by Palme d'Or winner Cristian Mungiu himself.
