HUMANITARIAN AND FILM WORLDS JOIN FORCES AT CANNES FOR REFUGEES

A gala evening follows the discussions and screenings

In celebration of the collaboration between UNHCR, IEFTA and the Marché du Film, the Voices for Refugees Gala evening on Tuesday May 17th at the Cannes Film Festival, will bring together leaders of one of the world’s most powerful industries and individuals immersed in the world’s greatest crisis, in conversation.

The evening also celebrates IEFTA’s 10th Year anniversary of working with emerging countries to enable life-changing impact through the power of film.

The success of an IEFTA-sponsored film winning ‘Best Film’ at half a dozen international film festivals in 2015 sets the perfect stage for this year’s Gala Event to formally announce the important partnership formed between UNHCR and the Marché du Film, to give Refugees a Voice.

Today there are almost 60 million people displaced worldwide.  These individuals have been forcibly displaced as a result of war, environmental destruction and persecution. Displaced persons, including refugees and asylum-seekers, make the impossible choice to leave their homes in a desperate attempt to find safety and hope. On the way, the journey is perilous, with little security, separation of families and minimal access to food and water.

The world looks on and struggles to understand how to cope with these millions of people seeking basic survival. The global news media presents the faces of tragedy but offers little inspiration on how to address this phenomenon of forced migration.

UNHCR, IEFTA and the Marché du Film have collaborated on the unified belief that film has the power to create significant change. Film invites viewers to question their own identity and to contemplate individual potential for contributing toward solving the refugee crisis.

The Gala invites you to give your Voice, and to imagine a more beautiful world free from conflict and displacement. On Tuesday the 17th of May, VIP event producer, Miriam Clements Curation will immerse you in a transformative process to inspire the potential to create a powerful paradigm shift for refugee crisis.

The gala event precedes the full-day conference, "Refugee Voices in Film," which will be held on the Wednesday, 18th of May at the Palais des Festivals in Cannes, presented by IEFTA, in collaboration with UNHCR and the Marché Du Film.
