Submissions are now open for the 2nd Annual Arohanui Film Festival, to be held October 26 – 30, 2016 in Te Aroha, New Zealand.

In it’s first year, AFF screened 20 films with a mix of national and international premieres, pairing feature films with short films. In 2016, Arohanui Film festival is aiming for a larger selection of films and more events for attendees.

Film programming gives priority to projects that have not been released in NZ, although the festival also runs a retrospective section for independent films when the director is available to answer questions at the festival.

Te Aroha is an historic and vibrant spa town in Waikato, New Zealand. Only fifteen minutes from Hobbiton, surrounded by the serene countryside of Ash Vs Evil Dead, while the cinematic Kaimai mountain range leads to the beaches where Pevensie children arrived in ancient Narnia.

The event brings film enthusiasts to the town for a weekend of screenings, discussions and introductions, including premieres classified for the event.

We also aim to connect our film makers with distributors, and as a direct result of our introductions, some of our 2015 films have been licensed to local television.

Arohanui Film Festival includes Q&A sessions with local film makers and workshops in a social non-competitive environment. Founded by prolific artist and teacher Lynne Renwick, who received the 2009 Queens Service Medal (QSM) for her service to theatre and youth in South Auckland. The Future Te Aroha centre is a former lingerie factory that has been converted to a multi purpose non-profit facility for community and cultural use.

Through open submissions, selections will be presented to the public at the 2016 Arohanui Film Festival.
