 Opening Film Steekspel (Tricked)

Every Festival Night to Sizzle with Excitement at Palm Beach Plaza Mall

The fourth annual Aruba International Film Festival will take a thematic approach to each night of movie screenings. Each “daily focus” will have visiting filmmakers, stars, press and guests filling the red carpet, providing a vibrant and festive atmosphere for festival patrons and AIFF’s supporting tenants at the Palm Beach Plaza Mall.

This year’s AIFF Daily Focus is as follows:

July 2: Opening Night – Opening Film Steekspel (Tricked) with director Paul Verhoeven, producer René Mioch and writer Robert Alberdignk Thijm, followed by the world premiere of Abo So (Only You) with director Francisco Pardo, Aruba musical legend Padu del Caribe, and members of the cast and crew.

July 3: Latin Night – Celebrities from Venezuela such as Maria Conchita Alonso, Hilda Abrahamz, Maria Alejandra Martín, Albi de Abreu will walk the red carpet and attend the regional premieres of Latin American films such as Brecha en el Silencio (Breach of Silence), El Laberinto de lo Posible (The Laryrinth of Possibility), Edificio Royal (Royal Building), and Las Lágrimas (The Tears). On this night the festival will also host the world premiere of the Dutch-American romantic drama A Perfect Man and the regional premiere of the South African documentary Angels in Exile (filmmakers in attendance for Q&A).

July 4: Action & Adventure Night – As part of a “late-night fright” affair, the festival will welcome one of the world’s most sought-after stuntwomen/actresses, Zoë Bell, who will introduce the international premiere of her action-horror movie Raze. Following Bell is Australian director Richard Gray, who will attend the world premiere of his psychological thriller Mine Games along with actors Briana Evigan and Joseph Cross. Also screening are international sensation The Rocket, and the inspirational documentaries Little World (Món Petit) and Songs of Redemption.

July 5: Closing Night – The festival will close with one of its charismatic guests from AIFF 2012, Oscar-nominee Virginia Madsen, who will attend the international premiere of The Hot Flashes. Also having its international premiere is the action film Empire State, starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Liam Hemsworth. Prolific Hollywood producer Randall Emmett will introduce the film.

July 6: Award Winners – Jury and Audience Award winners of the AIFF Caribbean Spotlight Series and Aruba Flavor competitions will screen throughout the day, and will be accompanied by repeat screenings of some of the festival’s most-attended international features, shorts, and documentaries.

July 7: Encore Series – Winner of the 2012 AIFF Caribbean Spotlight Series Audience Award, the windsurfing documentary Children of the Wind will have an encore screening a Caribbean Cinemas to celebrate the finale of its film festival run and its official home video release on DVD and Bluray.
